Today our text is from 1st Corinthians 6:19. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
If you have ever leased a car you know that the car even after the lease is up is not yours. You must then buy the car or turn it back in. It is not yours when you are paying on the lease no more than an apartment is yours while you are staying there.
Did you notice the last part of our text for today? It says that the bodies that we have are not ours. They are the Lord’s body just for us to use a short period of time.
Now this brings up an interesting question.
What are you doing with the body you are leasing? God has given you a body temporarily to use.
Will you let it sit around and let it go to pot because of lack of service and ambition?
Will you keep it in good shape so as to be an example to others?
Will you pump it full of unnecessary drugs, alcohol, and smoke?
Will you use it to just take care of yourself and never help or be a blessing to others. (This is the reason why I started this site. While I am leasing the body that the Lord has given me I want to be an encouragement to others because others were an encouragement to me.)
Will you use it for the Lord’s purposes and what he wants?
Your body is leased to you for a short period of time, and for some it is a much shorter period of time than others. You don’t know how much of the lease for you is over.
Do what you can for the Lord because… your lease may soon be up.
