Sleepless Nights

Our text tonight is from Luke 6:12.                                                                                                And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

sleepless nightsAt one time or another we all have sleepless nights.  Whether it is from worry, pain, medication, allergies, sickness, heartbreak, or heartache, we will have a sleepless night.  When we have those kinds of nights it would do us good to remember our text.  Jesus on several occasions went out to pray at night and sometimes all night.

Some believe if you can’t sleep, rather than toss and turn all night get up and do something.  There is plenty one can do.

Write letters or a card to someone that would be encouraged.  This is something I do often.  I have written many devotions in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep.  As a matter of fact, this one is being done in the middle of the night. 2 AM.

We can read the Bible, or perhaps spend some time in prayer. Many times then, the devil will see to it you will get sleepy.  Many people will appreciate you praying for them and there is always someone to pray for.  And if you can’t think of anybody, pray for me.

The short of it is, just like our Lord, he put the sleepless night to work for Him.  Prayer is a good way to use our sleepless nights. You may find that in the middle of the night the best quality of prayer takes place. You don’t have to worry about the phone ringing or being disturbed by others.

I understand… there are times when you are sick or in pain it is hard even to pray.  Been there, done that.  But the Lord understands this also.  In any event, remember the Lord is there and He never sleeps and He is willing to listen to you even if everyone else is asleep.

Put your sleepless nights to work.
