It’s Getting Cold

its getting coldOur text is from Matthew 24:12.  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

As the season of fall approaches the air starts to get drier and cooler and soon it becomes cloudy, gloomy, dreary, cold, and wintery.  Though some like the winter months, most people that I have talked to seem to prefer the spring months where the air starts to get warmer and things begin to come to life.  Even the animals seem happier.  The birds start singing, and the squirrels start playing, and the fish start jumping.  Things are alive and exciting.

The same is true when it comes to the things of God.

In our text, the love of many is cold due to sin and this for the most part is the sin of selfishness.  What about me?  When do I get to have fun?  Me me me, etc. This is because people are all wrapped up in themselves whether it is work or little distractions that the devil has handed out; there just isn’t an interest in godly things anymore. TVs, phones, computers, ipads, cd players, iPods, movies, and video games seem to be absorbing more and more of our time.   Where we used to pray, read the Bible, attend church services, have family devotions, now we are spending more and more time playing with our little toys or entertaining ourselves.

I work with men where their whole world revolves around video games and movies.  I suppose it is an escape from the daily drudge and routine.

The only thing that will remedy this cold season is real revival.  And this won’t happen until we as individuals start to warm up to the things of God which includes putting the Lord first and this may never happen until the Lord takes these things away from us and for that to happen something big may have to happen.  I say big, because do you realize what would have to happen to get the phones out of young people’s hands? What would have to happen to get the people to want to turn their TV’s and computers off or get rid of them?  I think you would have a fight on your hands, if you know what I mean.

When the Children of Israel were told to go in and posses the land that God had promised them they were told also to go in and destroy their molten images, tear down their high places and the first thing on the list was to destroy all their “pictures.”  (See Numbers 33:52).  You can see why it will take the Lord Jesus Christ himself to remedy this situation.  In the mean time…

May God give you the grace to help you to get through the cold season.
