Our text for today is from Isaiah 66:2. For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
The Lord in verse one tells us about the earth being his footstool and Heaven is his throne and he said in verse 2 he made those things. But then he goes on to say after making all of these great things, if you want my attention then acquire two things. A contrite spirit and fear of my word.
These things get God’s attention. A contrite spirit. That’s being broken or brokenhearted over sin or damage you have done to someone. David had this kind of spirit when he messed up with Bathsheba. Read Ps. 51.
Tremble at (Fear) God’s word. If you do, then you will respect it and obey it. God notices that and he will reward you accordingly. Read Proverbs 13:13.
There are a couple of other things that God notices. In Ezekiel 9 verse 4, the Lord protects those that cry over the wickedness of the evil doers in the land. God knew they didn’t approve of what was going on so God gave them protection when judgment started to fall.
Then lastly, in Matthew chapter 8 verse 10 Jesus is said to have marveled at the great faith that the centurion had concerning his servant’s healing. He told the Lord that it wouldn’t be necessary to come to his house, but to just give the word and his servant would be healed. Jesus marveled. Only 2 times he is said to have marveled. One for a lack of faith and one for great faith.
May you find a way to get God’s attention.
