No Power

Our text will come from Matthew 10:1. And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

no powerIt’s been said when candles are needed there is no power. That is true in many instances. Along with this I think of many churches that utilize candles in their services. I can’t help but think…oh, never mind.

In our text Jesus sends out his disciples to heal folks and cast out unclean spirits. It is he that gives them this power. It is not being good, going to church, sitting cross-legged and tripping out, being one with nature, getting baptized, or being healthy and strong. The power comes from the Son. Not the ‘sun’ but the ‘Son of God.’  You can’t get this power by physical exercise but through a spiritual walk with God. That includes reading your Bible, praying, witnessing, and putting God first in your life, in other words self denial. These are spiritual exercises and you think it takes discipline to exercise physically, try reading your Bible through in one year or even every three years. That’s one chapter a day.  Many are too occupied with their phones to read the word.  You will see that you will get a lot of opposition from others, the devil, and even your own will. I didn’t say it would be easy. It’s not always, but as they say our in the world “no pain, no gain.”

Now you can see why we have so many Christians with no power.  They are trying to get their power from other sources or by cutting corners.  Sorry, it won’t happen. They just have a candle, but no power.

My prayer is that God will give you the desire to want the power to serve the Master for he is worthy.
