Still in the Boat?

Our text is taken from Matthew 14 verses 22-33.  Notice in verse 29.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

still in the boat

This is a familiar story that many know today concerning Peter; the only disciple that walked on the water.  Because of his lack of faith he began to sink in the water but at least he had enough faith to get out on it and stood on the water for a short period of time.  Of course you know the rest of the story.  Peter began to sink and cried out to the Lord to save him and immediately the Lord did save him.

But what about the other 11 disciples?  Where were they?  Still in the boat.  That is a great lesson for us.  Most Christians never have enough faith to even ask to get out of the boat, much less try it.

Jesus rebuked Peter for his doubting but wonder how he felt towards the other disciples? At least Peter tried.

So now the question.  Are you still in the boat?  Have you put your faith to the test?  What would Jesus say to you?

This story makes me think that we all have a long way to grow.  In our faith especially.  The majority of Christians today are in the boat because they lack true faith.

May God give us the courage to exercise our faith and get out of the boat.                                                                                                                                                                          Don’t worry about sinking, Jesus is there.
