The One Thing That Will Mean Everything

Our text is from Romans 10 today.  10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Years ago my wife made a simple and profound statement.  She stated that one day the things that we think will be important will mean nothing and the things that we don’t think is important will mean everything. How true!  I have never forgotten that.

What is the one thing that will mean everything?

By these verses it is the one thing that so many religions, sects, denominations, and cults fall short of.  It is the one thing that works won’t accomplish, religion can’t establish, and creeds, forms, programs, and rituals can’t compete with.  It is not a physical thing, a head thing, a good intention, a sincere feeling, or a popular opinion.

It is belief in the heart that God raised the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead after he died on a ole splintery cross and was buried.  This is the Gospel.

Notice, it is a heart belief, not just a belief and not just a heart belief in God or religion or some act of man.  It is a belief in God sending his own Son to die for our sins.  After that he was buried and then he rose from the dead.  It is the belief in the act of God sending his own Son to pay for our sins because he loved us and didn’t want to see us go out into eternity “having no hope.”  So God made a way for us to escape and it is the one and only way to escape an eternal lake of fire.

Heart belief in what God did for us is the one thing that will mean everything and everything else is a waste of time and effort.

Please don’t waste your time and energy in the things that will mean nothing but “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  Acts 16:31.

This belief is… the one thing that will mean everything.
