Our text for today is taken from Titus 1
1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Notice our text.
God cannot lie. Why? Because God does not have a sin nature. We do have a sin nature therefore we don’t have a problem with lying. I mean, a baby doesn’t have to be taught to lie. It just comes natural for him. Many times he will cry to try to make you think he needs something but he just wants some attention. That is a want not necessarily a need. The point is that we are born with a nature that is sinful. That’s why we need a new birth.
God cannot change. When I think about something that doesn’t ever change I think of a big rock. Notice the picture. In Malachi 3:6 God says that he doesn’t change. We do. Many times as a compromise or maybe just to get along with someone and that can be a good thing as well as a bad thing. God doesn’t change where sin is concerned. He remains the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Sin is sin and he will never commit it. Of course that’s not the case with us. Again, this has to do with our sin nature. Something that God doesn’t have.
God cannot let you into heaven without the new birth. In the gospel of John chapter 3 verse 3, Jesus Christ says that a man will not even see the kingdom of Heaven unless he gets a new birth. By now you ought to understand why we need a new birth. Because our first birth is a sinful one and that’s why we have a sinful nature.
So now I have a question for you. Now that you know that there are some things that God cannot do, what are you going to do about it? If you want God’s blessings on you, and you want to go to Heaven, get born again, today, right now. You don’t have tomorrow.
Remember, there are some things that God cannot do.
