How to Prepare for Eternity

Our text is from Matthew 6:19-21.   Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

So many times we get all caught up in our own little world around us.  We get preoccupied with vacations, work, children, spouses, friends, and material things.  We forget that eternity is real and that we should be thinking about it also, after all, eternity is a lot longer than our present time.

The great evangelist Dr. Bob Jones Senior said that “The way to prepare for tomorrow is to do what you ought to do today.”  So true.  While you are here remember to invest in eternity.  You wouldn’t want to get up there and not have anything waiting for you.  Notice our text.  Things down here can rust, decay, and can be stolen.  We should lay up some things in Heaven that won’t wear out, deteriorate, or be ripped off.  What a waste of time to spend all of our talents and time for here and now and not have anything up in Heaven for us.  Live for Christ, serve Him, walk with Him, and do what you can for Him while you still have time. That’s how you prepare for eternity.

Remember, time is short, eternity is long.

Lay up treasure for eternity.

You will be glad you did.
