Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
If the Lord Jesus Christ had not come the first time you wouldn’t have anything to celebrate. That’s what the singing of Christmas carols is all about.
Joy to the World, The First Noel, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, O Come all Ye Faithful, and O little town of Bethlehem etc.
Perhaps instead of singing these songs we should just sit down and read the words and you will see it is all about the Lord Jesus Christ coming to this world.
What for? Well I’m glad you asked, although it is told in the Christmas carols.
See, again you are missing the main thing you are singing about.
God created man in the beginning. They had wonderful fellowship. But the man rebelled and disobeyed what God told him to do. So the fellowship between God and man was broken. It would never be the same unless someone acting on behalf of both parties could get them to reach some kind of an agreement. That someone was the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says in 1st Timothy 2:5, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. So God sent his only begotten son into the world to pay for our sin of rebellion and disobedience in order to bring us back into fellowship with God. The payment was a costly one. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross. So now based on the shed blood of Jesus we can again have fellowship with God. That is what the agreement was.
Next time we shall conclude our discourse on the true meaning of Christmas.
