The Solid Rock

Our text is from Matthew 7:24.   Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

 Jesus Christ is likened to a rock in Holy Scripture and to have him for a foundation is a good and solid foundation.  And to build upon a solid rock is wise.  You start building your home, family, and personal relationships with a good foundation and you won’t have to worry about them sinking in the storms of life.   The problem is starting with the right building material.  Many don’t.

If you were building a house, you would not think of setting it up on a sandy or muddy foundation.  You would know what will happen under any kind of stress.  Yet so many people build their lives on this kind of foundation and it’s no wonder of the suicides and divorces that take place.  It’s the foundation you started to build upon.

May God give you the wisdom to build on the right foundation.

The great Hymn The Solid Rock goes like this.                                                                                1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3. His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4.When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain:                                                                                                                                                  On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
